Worship
Worship services are held each Sunday at 8:30 am with an additional 10:00 am service during the summer months. Communion is offered at both the 8:30 am and 10:00 am service the first Sunday of the month.
Services are led by visiting ministers from the mainland who have been recommended by an Island property owner. Baptisms, weddings, memorials and other special services are scheduled through the Chapel office. The Board of Trustees sets the guidelines, policies and procedures to maintain the integrity of the Chapel. As a member of the Southport/Oak Island Inter church Fellowship, the Village Chapel is an active participant in community outreach.
You are invited to worship with the community or to experience on your own the peace and love emanating from this most special place.
Annual Report of the Village Chapel
The Village Chapel had a very successful year as we fulfilled our mission to provide a place for property owners, residents and guests to worship God and express our faith. Our ability to do this is directly related to the dedication and enthusiasm of over 100 volunteers who have served the Chapel this year.
In 2009 the Village Chapel held 70 regular services and 13 special services. We were able to continue our increased donations to the Southport Oak Island Inter Church Fellowship who distributes our gifts to the food pantry and the Brunswick Family Assistance human needs fund. In addition, we make regular gifts to Habitat for Humanity.
Highlights of this year include the addition of an antiphonal division to our new organ, a system for the hard of hearing, improvement of our website, the donation by an island resident of a golf cart for the Chapel, and an increase in the choir to 27 members.
We are pleased this year that in addition to our regular Angel Tree donations at Christmas, we added a Christmas in July tree to help provide back to school items for children in Brusnwick County. We are also beginning the process and fundraising to enable us to build the wall for another Habitat House this May.
We are so thankful for our many volunteers and friends of the Chapel who offer their support and donations. In order to meet the growing needs of our coommunity, the Chapel relies on people who provide us with new ideas and join us in service. We look forward to the new opportunities to serve God and the Bald Head Island community in 2010.
