The idea for a Chapel was originally conceptualized on Easter Sunday in 1984, at the first organized worship service of property owners held at the now extinct Bald Head Island Inn. The land adjacent to the Old Baldy Lighthouse was given for this effort by the George & Cynthia Mitchell family. Groundbreaking ceremonies were held on Easter Sunday, 1986 and the Chapel was completed in time for dedication on Easter Sunday, 1987.
Clovis Heimsath, a Texas architect, designed the building in keeping with the nineteenth century Carolina coastal style.
The one stained glass window, installed in the balcony, was designed by Marianne Heimsath, wife of the architect. It is the tripartite fish design: the three fish are in an equilateral triangle, which is the symbol for the Trinity, suggesting three equal parts joined into one.
The inscribed brass medallions placed on the altar rail were used as a part of the fundraising effort. The windows behind the altar overlook Bald Head Creek, Middle Island and, in the distance, Bluff Island.
